Wine for cats premieres in Japan

On Tuesday, B&H Lifes began selling Nyan Nyan Nouveau, a wine sold exclusively for cats, according to the Huffington Post.

The name is a combination of the Japanese onomatopoeia for a cat’s meow (“nyan nyan”) with a reference to beaujolais nouveau, a French red wine.

Fear not, concerned pet owners, there is no actual alcohol in this “wine.” The concoction is made from mostly grape juice, vitamin C and catnip.

According to Rocket News 24, B&H began developing the wine for consumers who want to celebrate festive occasions with their pets, though they acknowledge that cats do not drink for taste.

The beverage will retail for 399 yen ($4 US) for a 180 ml bottle. The company will apparently only be selling 1,000 bottles.
