CitX Corporation, a four-year-old global Internet technology leader
providing secure e-Solutions, Web-based tools, platforms, services and
digital environments, announces the development of WebXTalk, an
innovation in technology for those who are visually impaired.
WebXTalk enables CitX clients to provide users with the ability to
access and interact with their Web-based information and services via a
standard touch-tone telephone. Visually-impaired people who use WebXTalk
will get better functionality and their personal usage of the Internet
will be improved as they access Web sites to browse, buy and sell
products and services, or otherwise use the sites. WebXTalk also will
feature a built-in language translation capability, enabling users to
translate the contents of most Web sites to speech in languages such as
French, German, Chinese, and Japanese. Since WebXTalk is fully
e-commerce-enabled, users can select and purchase products or services
offered by Web sites via the phone. They can even complete forms and
questionnaires without using a Web browser.
The WebXTalk technology can automatically speech-enable most Web sites
using WebXTalk’s Web-based editor and compiler. CitX intends to include
the WebXTalk technology as an option to its e- Business Platforms,
e-Community, e-Marketplace, and Portal Platforms, enabling businesses to
provide a way for customers, employees, vendors, and partners to access
their Web-based businesses anywhere in the world.
Subscriptions to basic WebXTalk service will be offered to customers
starting at $9.95 per month. WebXTalk plans to roll out a beta test in
June 2000 and offer full commercial availability by August 2000.
