TRENDS is a fashion group of teenage for teenage and by teenage. It started in Toronto 6 years ago and it has its Vancouver chapter. Young girls throw the gauntlet to traditional concepts and perception of fashion by organizing workshops where they present fashion ideas that are far from what fashion has meant so far for many people.
While living with their bodies they own, being comfortable with themselves and how they look, they want to be, feel good and present themselves the way they are. In other words, no starved for money and anorexic, both bone-and-skin and grumpy looking “fabric hangers” who walk the high rank fashion show ramps of Paris, London, Milan or Tokyo any more.
The groups have workshops and discussions on how to develop their personal style in current fashion trends. The teens use their preferences to design a personal style that underlines their character, elevates confidence and radiates self-worth. It’s assisted by local fashion industry experts who provide guidelines on everything from how to wear great makeup to how to seminars and networking tips.
“This year, the members of TRENDS Vancouver decided to explore the need our world has for outer beauty, supported by a strong foundation of inner beauty. We thought there was no better way to do this than to invite a woman who embodies these two qualities to be our keynote speaker.”
As a result they invited a former 2003 Miss Canada and runner up for the Miss World Nazanin Afshin-Jam to be the person whose recognized beauty and former and recent activity was growing exactly at the same time with the TRENDS.
Nazanin was fantastically interacting with the audience when asking questions and expecting the answers about the sense and meaning of beauty. She was a great and sharp minded speaker who could be a raw model for many famous figures of live.
The event was attended by some 130 people and finished with the period of answers and questions with the 2003 Miss Canada.
