WASHINGTON — The first National Book Festival, sponsored by the Library of Congress, will be held at the Library of Congress and on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, September 8, first lady Laura Bush said Monday.
The First Lady Laura Bush will host the event, which is sponsored by the Library of Congress and modeled after the highly successful Texas Book Festival founded by Mrs. Bush.
The Festival will include author readings and book-signings, musical performances, and storytelling for children, adults, and families by a wide selection of noted authors and artists from around the country.
Festival activities will be housed in pavilions on the Capitol grounds and throughout the Library of Congress complex. Exhibits in the Library’s historic Jefferson Building will remain open and tours will be given throughout the day. Festival attendees will also be invited to explore the Library’s interactive Web site at the National Digital Library Learning Center in the James Madison Building, which is south of the Jefferson Building.
The First Lady and the Library of Congress hope that the National Book Festival will encourage all Americans to take advantage of the remarkable resources for lifetime learning available in our nation’s libraries.
