Turkish couple spends wedding day feeding 4,000 Syrian refugees

The couple got married in Killis province, which is located on the Syrian border. That is also where thousands of refugees are currently living after fleeing conflict in Syria.

Fethullah Üzümcüoğlu and Esra Polat enlisted the help of a local Turkish charity, Kimse Yok Mu, which helps refugees around the world. The charity provided a catering truck for the event, and the couple got behind the counter, while dressed in their wedding attire, and served meals to the refugees.

Ali Üzümcüoğlu, the groom’s father, is a volunteer with the charity and he came up with the idea to make the couple’s special day special for those who were going through a tough time.

Üzümcüoğlu said that he thought that sharing a big dinner with their friends and families was not really necessary, knowing that right next door there were many people in need.

The family covered some of the costs associated with feeding the refugees on their big day. The family said that seeing how happy the Syrian refugee children were was priceless, and that it’s a great feeling knowing that they started their journey to happiness with making others happy.
