Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes of the female pop music trio TLC has been killed in a car crash in Honduras. She was 30.
Officials for her record label say Lopes was killed Thursday while on vacation in the Central American nation.
Reports say Lopes was the only person killed of the seven people who were inside the vehicle. No other details of the crash were available.
The Philadelphia-born rapper was a member of the Grammy Award winning group TLC along with Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas.
In 1994, Lopes pleaded guilty to arson, after starting a fire that destroyed the mansion of her boyfriend, former Atlanta Falcons football player Andre Rison. She was sentenced to a half-way house and five years probation and fined $10,000. She and Rison later reconciled and last year announced plans to marry.
Lopes becomes the second popular American female pop star to die tragically in less than a year. In August, singer Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas. (voa)
