Scientists unveil revolutionary nanowire mesh for muscle soreness

The revolutionary tool comes from Nanoparticle Research at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Seoul. The tool is a silver mesh sleeve comprising nanowire. Unlike traditional heating pads that heat up and cool down, the mesh retains a constant temperature.

The temperature is maintained for as long as the sore muscles might require. The mesh is also stretchable to provide the best fit. The other thing that differentiates it from traditional heating pads is the fact that it does not require A/C plugin.

The silver nanowires in the mesh remain sandwiched between layers of breathable thermoplastic elastomer. Both the elastomer and the nanowires are able to contract and expand. This provides a great fit to all joints whether it is a large area like the knee or a small one like the wrist.

The nanowires used in the mesh are tiny. On average, they are ∼150 nm in diameter. The length of the nanowire is ∼30 μm (a human hair is usually in the range of from 17 to 181 µm).

The pad should remain tightly snug to the varicose veins of your skin. The mesh structure, therefore, comes with a 2-D interlocking coil-like pattern. The mesh gets created by pouring the liquid mixture into a mold of the desired shape.

This mesh heating tool should not only be effective but also prove cost effective at the same time. Right now no one knows when this nanowire mesh will become available in the market for the average consumer to buy.

The nanowire mesh will have wide application in therapeutic care. Scientists are also expecting it to have use in ski jackets and as a very efficient seat warmer in the car.

It is possible to use traditional heating pads only when one is close to an A/C outlet. But with this new tool, people will be able to gain therapeutic benefits while going about their daily chores. All because the nanowire mesh is thin and compact.

It fits well under the clothes. With battery power, it provides constant heat accelerating the therapeutic benefits you can get.
