On June 28, 2018, this journalist was afforded the privilege to dine at Kalamaki, and the food and service have been consistently excellent, since the first day it opened its doors in 2014. The aroma of the food, and the essence of the eatery are in a league of their own. What makes Kalamaki distinct is that all of the traditional Greek food that it serves comes with a unique twist, and that leaves their patrons wanting more. Their sun-dried tomato hummus is savory and it deserves a standing ovation in itself.
The interior design of the restaurant is as clever as its culinary creations, where in particular its souvlaki and gyros are second to none. The way they make their food is not overdone, and they allow the ingredients to speak for themselves. At every visit, there is always something different to try, and the staff and owners are very welcoming, thus showcasing a hospitality that can only be found in the Greek islands. Kalamaki garners an A rating.
It is evident that Kalamaki’s latest win for “Best Greek Restaurant in Queens” in the 2018 Best of the Boro competition was well-deserved, and hopefully, there will be many more accolades, awards and rave reviews from critics and patrons alike to come in the near future.
Kalamaki is located on 29-06 172nd Street in Flushing, Queens. To learn more about Kalamaki, check out its official website, and Facebook page.
