London Fashion Weekend aims to provide “an insider’s view of the latest fashion trends.” The event is held twice per year at different venues, in London. The three-day autumn trends event took place at the Saatchi Gallery (opened by advertising mogul Charles Saatchi in 1985.)
Most people attend London Fashion Weekend to take in the cat walks, where very thin models glide past wearing this coming season’s latest creations.
The format for the cat walks are trends, where a range of designers are featured, and those dedicated to specific designers.
With trends there were several themes. The first was velvet, which covered the range from everyday wear to evening gowns, described as stretching from “languid dresses to skinny suiting.”
The trend theme was also developed through floral prints. Here the emphasis was upon taking something slightly old fashioned and giving it a more modern twist.
Here florals were reimagined with a darker, more dramatic twist.
Another trending theme was lace, with a return of higher necklines and a dash of Victorian style to the clothes presented.
The good thing to observe with the trends were that they were all wearable, with no outlandish dresses in sight. While the prices charged by the top designers are astronomical, the general styles become those copied by high street stores.
The designer taken in by Digital Journal was Edeline Lee. Lee has produced clothes worn by such notables as Alicia Vikander, Taylor Swift, Helen Skelton and Solange Knowles. Lee was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
The focus of Lee’s autumn work was on monochrome, producing striking contrasts through the use of black, white and grays.
Edeline Lee pieces are made by hand in England of Italian, French and Swiss fabrics. Some of the styles are shown in this Digital Journal shot video:
In-between the cat walk stagings and the bustle of the bazaar style arrangements with numerous pop-up shops, various panels were held. These discussed the significance of the current fashion trends, the creative design process, historical developments, and the latest sources of fashion inspiration. There was also a focus on the digital era and how fashion is using social media and other parts of the digital world to convey its latest and ever-changing offerings.
London Fashion Weekend offers a range of different styles and trends, and presents a good opportunity for those with an interest in fashion to see what’s likely to be “in” this coming season.
