Khaosan is a contemporary Thai restaurant in Brooklyn Heights, New York. This journalist had the opportunity to recently dine for lunch.

By definition in the Thai language, Khaosan means “milled rice.”

Appetizers

As an appetizer or starter, their “Curry Dumplings” are quite impressive, since they are comprised of steamed vegetable dumpling soaked in their homemade curry sauce, which is rich and flavorful.

The same holds true for their “Vegetable Spring Rolls,” which consist of spring mix, basil leaf, carrot, organic tofu, and rice noodle wrapped with rice paper served with their spicy peanut dressing.

Spicy Basil Thai Fried Rice with Roasted Duck

Their “Spicy Basil Thai Fried Rice” is a true highlight at this restaurant. It is made up of Jasmine rice wok tossed in spicy basil sauce with farm fresh egg, dark soy sauce, sea salt, fresh grind pepper, farm tomato and seasonal vegetable. This journalist chose roasted duck at the protein, which was crispy and crunchy. This dish alone is worth the visit to Khaosan.

The Verdict

Overall, Khaosan is a neat hidden gem in Brooklyn Heights with an emphasis on organic contemporary Thai cuisine. It has a warm, friendly, and pleasant atmosphere. The wait staff was swift and attentive to the patrons’ needs.

The portions are generous, and there is something new to try at each visit due to its elaborate menu of offerings; there is something in it for everybody.
