The Consulate in Midtown is a French American-inspired restaurant and bar. It was founded by twin owners Metodija Mihajlov and Kiril Mihajlov.
They first opened the original Consulate brasserie on the Upper West Side back in 2019, and in March of 2023, they brought The Consulate to the bustling Midtown neighborhood of New York.
The Consulate is able to take its patrons on an international journey of cuisines thanks to its modern global French-American menu, which is elaborate and extensive.
The dining room on the second floor is beautifully designed with fancy decor and a retro vibe to it.
‘Mediterranean Salad’
Their “Mediterranean Salad,” which featured Greek feta cheese, was the quintessential dish to begin one’s culinary journey at The Consulate Midtown.
Entrées
Their “Seared Duck Breast” was tender, juicy, and literally, sheer bliss. One of the highlights for sure.

Their “Glazed Salmon” topped with pomegranate seeds was moist and succulent.

Their spiral “Pesto Pasta” was vibrant and pungent — possessing a basil-heavy, herbaceous garden aroma — and topped with Parmesan cheese. This dish is a must for fans of the Italian-American cuisine.

Sides
Solid and healthy side choices were their “Brussels Sprouts” with bacon bits which were drenched in red wine vinegar, as well as their “Roasted Herb Fingerling Potatoes,” both of which were quite crispy.

Desserts
At The Consulate in Midtown, one should leave room for dessert! Their “Pistachio Cheesecake” was light yet flavorful.

Their “Chocolate Lava Cake” was scrumptious accompanied with scoops of vanilla ice cream, blueberries, blackberries, and sliced strawberries.

Finally, The Consulate Midtown was the quintessential place to try out their “Nutella Flan,” which was rich, sweet, and creamy.

Louis Tiglias on The Consulate Midtown
“I was welcomed and greeted nicely by ownership/management and had a nice table on the second floor. We began with a nice garden salad and our entrees included glazed salmon and duck with sides of Brussels Sprouts, fingerling potatoes, and a mixed green pasta with pesto,” patron Louis Tiglias said.
“There was no shortage of flavor,” Tiglias admitted. “Each dish had its own unique taste, and I was genuinely impressed. I discovered a new love for duck meat as this was the first time I’ve ever tried it, and it won’t be my last!”
“Just when I thought I couldn’t fit any more food in my body, the various deserts all melted in my mouth. Each dish was cleaned up with nothing left over just like the Greek way! Thankful for the good company and food. Would I come back? A million times ‘yes’,” Tiglias elaborated.
The Verdict
Overall, The Consulte Midtown is a remarkable eatery in the heart of Manhattan. The dishes are well-seasoned, rich, and tasty.
Kudos to Chef Alan Vargas and his exceptional team for all the sublime dishes, whose presentations are artistic, elegant and creative. There is a rawness and authenticity to this eatery like no other, and there is always something new to try at every visit. The wait staff was courteous and attentive.
The Consulate Midtown is worth more than just a passing glance, and it garners an A rating. Bravo.
