Son Cubano is a modern Cuban restaurant, situated on the Hudson, in New Jersey.
On March 29, this journalist had the opportunity to dine at Son Cubano for brunch at this eatery that is located in the town of West New York, New Jersey.
Son Cubano itself has a retro ’50s vibe to it coupled with a pleasant ambiance. Brian Morales serves as its executive chef.
Appetizers
For hors d’oeuvres, one ought to try their “Skirt Steak skewers,” which were accompanied with Herb Ocopa, green olive Sofrito, and Queso Fresco.
Their “Lobster and Shrimp Tacos” consisted of Pico De Gallo, Sambal mayo (aioli), and radishes. While the portions were slightly small, their taste (and the artistic presentation of the meals) made up for it.
Side dishes
Their standout sides include their “Sweet Potato Wedges” with Tamarind Glaze, which were indeed sweet and savory, and their “Garlic and Truffle Manchego Fries,” which were salty yet crispy.
Entrée
As an entrée (and for patrons that enjoy meat), their “Churrasco” Prime Skirt Steak was quite noteworthy consisting of Arroz Moro (Cuban rice with black beans), Maduros, radishes, scallions and chimichurri sauce.
Desserts
Several of their distinct and scrumptious desserts include their “Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sliders,” which are comprised of Vanilla Gelato, candied almonds, raspberries, toasted marshmallows with a side of hot fudge.
They also offer “Maduro Sunday,” which can easily be shared with two people. This includes Vanilla Gelato, dried banana clips, pineapple chutney, candied black pepper cashews, passion fruit caramel, and chocolate sauce.
An unforgettable view of the Manhattan skyline
Son Cubano has visually-striking views of the New York City skyline (from the opposite side of the Hudson), which serves as a neat and picturesque backdrop that helps elevate the dining experience.
“I was immediately struck by the vibrant atmosphere and warm hospitality that enveloped the restaurant. From the first bite to the last, I found himself immersed in a culinary journey that surpassed his expectations,” social influencer Rudy Bundini said.
“The dishes, expertly crafted and bursting with authentic Cuban flavors, left a lasting impression. From the beautifully presented entrees to the impeccable service, Son Cubano’s commitment to excellence shone through in every aspect of the culinary and dining experience,” Bundini elaborated.
Conclusion
Overall, Son Cubano is able to fuse the Cuban and American cuisines quite well. The presentation of their meals is creative and elegant.
The wait staff is decent, the management is caring and attentive, and at each visit, there is something new to try due to its extensive menu of offerings.
It is recommended and worth checking out, especially for patrons that want to experience the diverse tastes of Cuba. Son Cubano on the Hudson garners four out of five stars.
