Background on ‘Berimbau’

By definition, “Berimbau” is a traditional Angolan musical bow that is commonly used in Brazil.

It is comprised of a single-stringed bow attached to a gourd resonator and is played with a stick and a coin or stone to create different tones and rhythms.

The Midtown location of Berimbau NYC has been open for two years, and they also have a West Village restaurant, which has been open for 16 years.

Appetizers

One’s culinary journey at Berimbau begins with their Appetizers. Their “Brazilian Empanadas” were filled with crab meat, and their “Yuca fries” were topped with caramelized onions and shaved Parmesan cheese.

In addition, their “Beets & White Bean Hummus” was rich and creamy with roasted potatoes, pumpkin seeds, arugula, and oil.

Main courses

As an entrée, one cannot go wrong with their “Pork Chops” or their “Bife a Cavalo,” the latter of which featured tender Prime New York strip streak, an organic sunny side up egg, roasted French fries, and herb sauce.

Their “Pork Chops” were juicy, accompanied with delicate squash and served with healthy Swiss chard, as well as cabbage salad (a variation of cole slaw) and acerola sauce. This dish alone is worth the visit to Berimbau NYC!

Desserts

A true highlight in the dessert department is its seasonal dish, the “Coffee-infused flan,” which is creamy and it comes with a bread-and-butter twist. It will certainly satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth.

The same holds true for their delectable “Bolo de Chocolate Gelado,” which is chocolate cake with gelato ice cream.

“Berimbau NYC has Brazilian comfort food with strong flavors and the prettiest plates. It was an unforgettable Brazilian dinner — every dish was beautiful, bold, and full of flavor,” Chrissy Antosca said.

The Verdict

Overall, Berimbau Brazilian Table in Midtown Manhattan is simply a delightful and exquisite eatery.

Patrons will be able to embark on a culinary journey through the rich flavors of Brazil coupled with its warm hospitality, tremendous and courteous wait staff, as well as authentic Brazilian cuisine.

The gifted chef approaches all of these traditional dishes with a refreshing, modern approach, which is infectious.

If that weren’t enough, its interior design, ambiance, and decor captures the essence of Brazilian Midcentury Modernism, which sets the quintessential tone to transport patrons to different realms… in this case, it is Rio de Janeiro. It is ideal for the whole family, as well as for any special occasion or private party.

It is highly recommended that one checks out Berimbau the next time they are in Midtown or even the West Village (since they have a different location there as well). They will not be disappointed. This Brazilian restaurant garners an A rating.
