Playwright Miller To Receive Prince Of Asturias Award

OVIEDO, Spain (voa) – American Playwright Arthur Miller has become the third foreign writer and the first American to receive Spain’s prestigious Prince of Asturias Award for Literature.

The 87-year-old writer was honored for significant contributions to literature, including works such as The Crucible, and Death of a Salesman, which won a 1949 Pulitzer Prize.

The award is considered Spain’s top literary honor and traditionally goes to Spanish language writers. The prize is named after Spanish Crown Prince Felipe.

The Prince will present the award to Mr. Miller in a ceremony in the northern city of Oviedo later this year. Mr. Miller will receive a monetary prize and Joan Miro sculpture.

Asturias Prizes are also awarded each year in the areas of social science, arts, sports and international cooperation.
