Steveston Village is located in south-western part of Richmond and originated as a small village founded by Japanese settlers early in 20th century. Its shopping area encompasses fashionable gift stores and funky restaurants converted from everything that used to be old and small complex of canneries. Bottom part of the shopping area has the Fisherman’s Wharf that looks like a special marina.

But it neither houses the yachts nor recreational boats. It’s where the fishing boats come every day with always fresh catch of fish. Since 1989, lots of people have come here to get fresh and frozen-at-sea salmon, prawns, shrimp, sardine, halibut, cod, tuna and other seasonal seafood.

The Fish Market is open every day from dawn to dusk and gives an opportunity to buy fresh fish directly from fishing boats which have small selling outlets. It’s also a good opportunity to see the fishing boat from a close proximity when trying to imagine people living there and working in harsh conditions. It’s always very busy area on weekends where people come to restaurants or visit gift stores.
