As California’s largest public healthcare district, Palomar Health are recognising its team of nurses during U.S. National Nurses Week, happening May 6–12, 2025. Palomar Health’s dedicated nurses are central to the health system’s many recent awards.

The health company is calling out nurses for their humanity, honor their impact and thank them for all they do to lift others up, even when their own burdens are heavy.

National Nurses Week

This year’s theme is “The Power of Nurses” (#ThePowerOfNurses). This embodies the value of nurses in keeping the U.S. nation healthy and thriving. Throughout history, nurses have been the backbone of the healthcare system, advocating for patients and leading at the forefront of innovation. Nursing is the U.S.’s largest healthcare profession with more than 4.8 million registered nurses (RNs) in employment.

The week is supported by corporate sponsors — Capella University, LinkedIn, and Premier Protein — and corporate donors – Quince and Springer Publishing, as well as Chipotle and Skechers.

As well as celebratory event, the American Nurses Association is sponsoring academic discussions, such as the newly revised Code of Ethics for Nurses, which calls on nurses to advance social justice, eliminate health inequities, and promote human flourishing across all communities.

Palomar Health

As an example of best nursing practice, Palomar Health was established in 1948. The organisation has enjoyed success in many areas: The Villas at Poway, Palomar Health’s skilled nursing facility, was recently named a 2025 Best Nursing Home for both short-term and long-term care by U.S. News & World Report, while both of Palomar Health’s medical centers also earned “A” Hospital Safety Grades from The Leapfrog Group.

In addition, Palomar Health also earned recognition on Newsweek’s 2025 lists of both World’s Best Hospitals and America’s Best-in-State Hospitals. These national recognitions are a testament to the care and compassion Palomar Health’s nurses provide to every patient.

Nurses are the cornerstone

“Our nurses are the cornerstone of Palomar Health’s repeated excellence and recognition as one of the nation’s top healthcare organizations,” said Diane Hansen, president and CEO of Palomar Health in a statement sent to Digital Journal. “This Nurses Week we want to recognize the tireless effort our nurses put forth, from their long hours to the compassion they extend to every patient.”

The real story of Palomar Health’s nurses is told in the moments that don’t make headlines: the comforting words whispered during late-night rounds, the teamwork in a bustling trauma bay, the fierce advocacy for a patient’s needs and the compassion that lingers long after a hospital stay ends.

While Palomar Health supports its nursing staff with professional development and mentorship programs, celebrating Nurse’s Week at Palomar Health is focused on something deeper. The managers are keen to recognize the humanity of its nurses, honouring their impact and thanking them for all they do to lift others up, even when their own burdens are heavy.

“To every nurse in the Palomar Health family, thank you. Thank you for the sacrifices you make, the compassion you offer and the lives you touch,” adds Hansen. “Your strength redefines what’s possible in healthcare, and your heart makes it matter.”
