The ground beef under recall by All American Meats was packaged and sold in 60- to 80-pound boxes, and shipped to retail locations nationwide. The FDA/FSIS has not released any information on the types of retail establishments or the states involved in the recall at this time.
According to Bloomberg Business, All American Meats opened in Omaha, Neb. in 1996, and its customers include foodservice distributors, grocery store chains, military commissaries, military installations, correctional facilities, super centers, processors, prime vendors, wholesalers, hotels, restaurants, casinos, and institutional facilities. They also export their products overseas.
The problem was discovered on Friday, October 30, 2015, when a positive test result for E. coli O157:H7 from FSIS’ in-commerce surveillance program testing was traced back to the establishment. At this time, there have been no reports of illness or any adverse reactions due to eating these products, says the FSIS.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 20420” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The ground beef items were produced on Oct. 16, 2015. The following products are subject to recall:
80-lb. (approximate weight) boxes of “Ground Beef 80% Lean 20% Fat (Fine Grind)” with Sell By Date 11-03-2015 and case code 62100.
80-lb. (approximate weight) boxes of “Ground Beef 73% Lean 27% Fat (Fine Grind)” with Sell By Date 11-03-2015 and case code 60100.

It is important that any consumers who have purchased these products or have them in their freezers either throw them out or return the products to the location where they were purchased. Until it is known where these products were distributed, and to which states, it is advisable that consumers check with their supermarkets or other retail establishments that sell meat.
E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps 2–8 days after exposure to the organism. It can be particularly dangerous in young children and older adults. Anyone experiencing symptoms should seek emergency medical care immediately.

In a related story, Digital Journal reported on Saturday that 43 Chipotle Restaurants in Oregon and Washington State have temporarily closed their doors after 22 customers became ill with symptoms of as E.coli infection after dining at the establishments. Testing is still going on to determine the E. coli serotype involved.
