The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is classifying this as a Class 2 Recall. The recall affects Nestle Good Start 2 Concentrate 359ml Tetra Box with Omega that is sold in cases of 12.
The affected products have the following batch codes: 512857211A, 512957211A, 512957212A, 513057211A. This recall does not affect any other Nestle products.
According to CTV Canada, Nestle says the minerals in the recalled products may separate over time and appear as black particles in the formula. The company is advising consumers with the specific products covered by the recall to not use the product. Use of the product could lead to lower intake of some nutrients, due to reduced bioavailability.
Reuters is reporting the company said in a statement overnight on Sunday, “Nestle Canada is working with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and is voluntarily recalling four batches of the product due to a quality issue.” The CFIA reports that the recall was triggered by consumer complaints.
According to the CFIA, there have been some reported illnesses, but they have not yet been confirmed to be caused by consumption of the affected product. For more information, consumers can call Nestlé Canada Inc.: (1-855-395-1238). As always, the CFIA is verifying that Nestle is removing the recalled product from the marketplace.
