Nationwide recall – almost one million pounds of chicken products

The FSIS recall announcement was issued late on Thursday for OK Food, Inc., an Oklahoma City, Oklahoma establishment after the company received five consumer complaints that metal fragments had been found in the ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken products.

The RTE chicken items were produced on various dates from Dec. 19, 2016, through March 7, 2017. A list of the products subject to recall can be found here PDF. All the recalled products bear the establishment number “P-7092” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations, schools, and institutions nationwide.

According to the FSIS notice, OK Foods Inc started receiving consumer complaints on March 21, 2017. The complaints centered around finding metal objects in the ready-to-eat chicken products.

After further investigation, OK Foods Inc. discovered the metal fragments were coming from metal conveyor belting, and this was further confirmed by FSIS inspection personnel during verification activities.

To date, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Abby Brown at (479) 312-2409.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend Karen Graham, who served as Editor-at-Large at Digital Journal. She was 78 years old. Karen's view of what is happening in our world was colored by her love of history and how the past influences events taking place today. Her belief in humankind's part in the care of the planet and our environment has led her to focus on the need for action in dealing with climate change. It was said by Geoffrey C. Ward, "Journalism is merely history's first draft." Everyone who writes about what is happening today is indeed, writing a small part of our history.
