Zeb Crawford, health coach and COO of NuEthix, chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about his journey in life and with NuEthix, and being a health coach in the digital age.

American track and field legend Jesse Owens once said: “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” Zeb Crawford is an individual that embodies this wise quotation by the late four-time Olympic gold medalist.

“Being the COO of NuEthix is a dream job role for me,” he said. “It encompasses many of past roles and experiences as an athlete all into one position. It also is amazing to be working along with individuals who I watched make this brand become a reality. I’ve known Jason (Co-Owner & Formulator) and Stephaney (CEO & Co-Owner) for over 12 years.”

“I’ve known Vince (Chief Science Officer, Formulator & Co-Owner) for over years. So these people are not only my co-workers on the leadership team but also former coaches of mine, friends, and individuals who push me to be a better leader every single day,” he said.

“It is also very rewarding to be part of something special,” he said. “We are a fast-growing company that truly focuses on our four pillars: honesty, integrity, transparency, and truth. We focus on truly helping people become healthy from the inside out.”

“I feel fortunate every day to be part of a team and a brand that’s working hard to make a positive impact in the industry,” he added.

Regarding his daily motivations, he said, “I am naturally a stubborn, hard-working, goal-oriented person. I owe my stubbornness to my dad. With that in mind, I always am working towards being better.”

“I want to be a better person, a better COO, a better leader, a better athlete, a better partner, a better friend. Because by developing myself I know I can have a positive impact on all aspects of my life. I want to help the world around me be a better place and that starts with my own growth,” he elaborated.

He noted that NuEthix is unique for many reasons. “First of all, we were the first and only supplement company with a female CEO. That’s pretty awesome in an industry that’s typically seen as male-dominated. Next, as I stated, we are so focused on honesty, integrity, transparency, and truth,” he said.

“While most companies put a large chunk of their dollars behind marketing, we have always put much of ours behind products first. We actually didn’t spend a dime on advertising until early 2020, less than 2 years ago. Many can’t believe that. We also are very passionate about making sure our customers are getting exactly what we say is in the bottle,” he said.

Crawford continued, “We do this by providing full labels, ingredients, and COA’s (Certificate of Analysis) for every batch of every product. A customer can literally visit our website, search their lot # that’s on the bottle, and view every detail of their product. Take all of that and then add in that all 4 leadership members (Stephaney, Jason, Vince, and myself) are current or past health coaches, and two of those (Jason and Vince) are sought out coaches in the industry, both with very successful coaching companies of their own. We can literally say that our two formulators are guru’s in the health coaching industry.”

The digital age

On being a health coach and professional in the digital age, he said, “I think it’s very exciting but also challenging. It is exciting because there’s really nothing holding us back. There are tons of ways to approach coaching, marketing, influencing, and scaling as a company.”

“On the flip side, however, it is challenging as there are not only constant changes but there are so many options to try and be successful that it can be a game of finding what truly works best for our brand and our goals. We’re still very much a small business, so we certainly have to take educated risks at times,” he said.

For young and aspiring health coaches, he said, “To find a way to be unique. It seems like everyone and their brother is a “Health Coach” these days. Folks will compete once, get online nutrition and/or training certification and start charging people for plans. Rather than jumping into things and potentially putting people at risk, it’s best to work on your craft, and then work on it some more.”

“Meaning, training some people for free, making meal plans for free, using friends and family as guinea pigs. Then once you feel confident and you’ve proven you can help individuals with their goals, start slow. Keep your prices lower to reflect your experience and find a way to set yourself apart,” he elaborated.

“Maybe you’re someone who does well only men or only females, maybe you don’t have experience with younger clients… find a niche and roll with it. Example: if some guy is a bodybuilder with five competitions under his belt and wants to improve, he’s not going to pick the coach who’s only been working with women who don’t strength train,” he explained.

Crawford had great words about Emmy-nominated actor and host Cameron Mathison, who recently joined their team. “I am so thrilled to have him on the team,” he said. “From our first Zoom call, I could tell he was not only a genuine person but also someone that truly wants to inspire others with his own personal journey. He’s clearly talented but I think his personality is his biggest asset.”

“The positivity and willingness to learn is something special,” he said. “The industry is full of cookie-cutter coaches and influencers. Cameron is the exact opposite and he stated he wanted to be that way. He has already had a positive effect on our brand and I can’t wait to continue working with him. I also can’t wait for more battles with him to see who rocks the tank tops better.”

On his definition of success, he said, “Positive growth and fulfillment. I think everyone should push to continue growing until the day they die. I also think you grow, you help others around you: co-workers, partners, family, friends. And to help others around you, that can be very fulfilling. You help your business, and you help your relationships.”

Crawford remarked about NuEthix, “We truly work our butts off to be different, to be unique, to be a breath of fresh air in a very saturated industry. Our small team goes above and beyond to provide the highest quality supplements on the market.”

“We help people reach their physique and performance goals while also improving their overall health and wellness. If you’re looking for taste and cheap prices over quality, that ain’t us. We are quality first, always have been, always will be,” he concluded.
