Digital Journal — Boobs, hot rods and celebrities make Maxim Magazine an international powerhouse, but now the men’s publication is branching out into the online realm. Its new free weekly online-only mag will debut November 1.
Monkey will be delivered weekly to online subscribers, laid out in a conventional magazine format in a PDF or onscreen size. Its 50 pages will contain the usual big-breasted models and cheeky articles, but will also include video games and film trailers.
It’s no surprise Maxim is going the online route in the wake of the success of FHM.com and other competitors. What will be interesting to find out is how impressive its digital content will be in comparison to the myriad video sites that specialize in streaming clips.
If Monkey can provide Dennis Publishing, the creators of Maxim, with another revenue stream, expect the magazine industry to rethink how it will move forward into the digital age.
