Man proposes to girlfriend for a year and she didn’t know it

Smith filmed parts of the video over the next year and recruited Jennifer’s friends and family to help him propose to her on a beach in Aruba on her birthday, January 8, 2015. Her brother and her friend helped lead her to the beach where her family members waited to handed her a device where she could watch the video her boyfriend put together.

“By now, you’ve probably realized that your birthday surprise is in the form of this video,” Smith said in the video. “What you don’t know is that I’ve been planning this birthday surprise for over a year now.”

In the video, Dean said he wanted to find a creative way to propose to Jennifer and show how much he loved her, so he decided to write the magic question on the whiteboard everyday for a year. “Will you marry me, Jennifer?” Dean was seen holding the whiteboard in various settings while lip-synching to “Happy” by Pharrell Williams and “Marry You” by Bruno Mars.

“Jennifer, I love you more than anything in the world,” he said. “I know that you’re the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, but I want to be perfect and make this moment special. For the next year, I’ll show you how much I love you and that you’re in my thoughts everyday. I want to marry you.”

After watching the video, Jennifer turned around and found Dean on one knee. Even a stranger nearby yelled out, “We all want invitations to the wedding!”
