Magazine For Kids Hits the Skies

The latest edition of Landing Zone, the only in-flight magazine for
kids, boards May 1 on American Airlines. The Spring/Summer edition is
the third issue of the bi-annual magazine, which debuted one year ago.

Created by American Airlines Publishing, the 28- page magazine features
short stories, activities and games designed to appeal to children ages
four to 12 from all over the world. It is available on all American
Airlines flights.

“Landing Zone provides a fun and educational experience for our younger
passengers,” said Michael W. Gunn, American’s Senior Vice President of
Marketing. “The magazine has become a favourite of both kids and
parents, and can provide a wonderful opportunity for interaction between
them.”

This issue features a story about NASCAR, and introduces six top racers
and discusses the thrill of racing. It comes with a Race Day board game,
complete with a pull out card of six little cars. Kids also can read
“From The Horse’s Mouth,” a story told by Harry the Horse, who acquaints
everyone with the ranch he lives on by introducing some of his animal
friends, and telling about the work that goes on in a junior rancher’s
day. There is a story about bones. With the help of Dr. James Andrews, a
Health South orthopaedic surgeon, provides facts and information about
how to take care of youngsters’ bones.

Four pages in Spanish feature an editorial on mummies, and “Trade
Secrets” – collecting things and trading them for other things.
