Living Arts Centre Offers Over 40 Events

(Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) – Living Arts Centre, Mississauga’s
community focal point for entertaining and enriching experiences in the
living arts announced its exciting 2000/2001 Season.

“Our new performing arts season truly has something for everyone,” said Daniel
S. Donaldson, Living Arts Centre, CEO. “There’s theatre, dance, circus,
acrobatics and comedy. On the music front, there’s singer-songwriters,
rock, jazz, cabaret, swing, country and new-age.

One of the most treasured aspects of the Centre’s season is its programming
for children and families. There are three different series to choose from:
The Wiggle Club, KidStuff! and the new Rogers Family Passport Series. Now
entering its second year, the Wiggle Club features five events
specially-chosen for children ages three to six. Performances run
approximately 45 minutes in length and children are in close proximity to
the artists in the intimate Theatre.

The new Rogers Family Passport Series features four shows, including artists
from Canada, China and Africa. The series opens in November with Barrage,
Canada’s hottest young fiddlin’ “super-group.” The entire Barrage ensemble
of energetic musicians is under 25 and their concerts are a world tour of
fiddle music, including celtic, calypso, country, klexmer and much more.

Other events include Wofa!, a non-stop explosion of percussion and dancing
from Guinea, West Africa; Amazing Journey, with Dr. David Suzuki, the
Mississauga Youth Theatre and the Mississauga Youth Orchestra; and the
Shanghai Acrobats.

For a special night out on the town, Mississaugans can look
forward to the Broadway and Beyond series. This four-show series combines
musicals and spoken-word theatre. One of the highlights of this series is the
area premiere of comedian Steve Martin’s critically-acclaimed play, Picasso at
the Lapin Agile, a witty imaginary meeting between Pablo Picasso and Albert
Einstein in a Paris caf?. Other events include Godspell, Forever Plaid, and
Wingfield Farm: Wingfield’s Progress.

For music programming, the LAC offers four different series: Nightlife, The
Entertainers, Music Pub and Casually Jazz. The Nightlife Series features
contemporary recording artists: Jesse Cook, Leahy, Cowboy Junkies, Natalie
MacMaster and Robert Michaels.

The new Entertainers Series features music that spans the generations in its
popular appeal. It opens with Toronto’s celebrated Spitfire Band who bring
its big-band swing for a celebration where audience members can join the
band members to dance on the Hammerson Hall stage. Cleo Laine, whose
elegant style and extraordinary vocal abilities have made her one of the
world’s most beloved divas of jazz, and Canada’s celebrated entertainer,
Michael Burgess round out the series.

In 2001, the Living Arts Centre offers three special events: Showboat-the
largest production to appear at the Centre; the lovable musical Annie, and
The Nutcracker, a ballet fantasy featuring the Kyiv Ballet of the National
Opera of Ukraine with special guest artists, The Ukrainian Shumka Dancers of
Canada.

Patrons can order subscriptions and tickets by calling the LAC’s Box Office
at (905) 306-6000.
