Liveblog debate: Should airport security use racial profiling?

Thanks to the foiled Christmas Day bombing, security at major airports across the world has been tightened. Full-body scans are being considered for many airports, and passengers have reported incredibly long lineups to board their flights.

As terrorist attacks on the West continue to be a concern, expect more security controls.

In fact, some experts are calling for extreme measures, such as racially profiling passengers, with one former U.S. general urging officials to strip-search all young Muslim men. Representative Peter King said recently, “The fact is while the overwhelming majority of Muslims are outstanding people, on the other hand 100 percent of the Islamic terrorists are Muslims, and that is our main enemy today.”

In Digitaljournal.com’s monthly liveblog debate starting at noon (Eastern) today, we’ll discuss the pros and cons of racially profiling airline passengers, the benefits of added security in airports and what you think about boarding flights today. Should airport security be as tight as it is, considering the bombing was foiled? Do we need more levels of protection? Should Muslims be singled out, or is that a slippery slope? ?
