The kit comes from the company Health Care Originals. The company designs and develops the wearable device designed to help the user to monitor asthma. In association is technology called the ‘Automated Device for Asthma Monitoring and Management’, which is a wearable technology which helps with the management of asthma. Health Care Originals is based in Rochester, New York.
Asthma is a common long-term inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs, characterized by variable and recurring symptoms such as episodes of wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Asthma is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Those with serious cases and for people of more advanced years, round-the-clock monitoring and regular checkups are essential in order to help control the disease. To help to address this, Health Care Originals devised an automated smart medical device which is intended to reduce the workload associated with monitoring chronic asthma, be that of medical staff or care-givers.
The Automated Device For Asthma Monitoring And Management comes equipped with a secondary app which enables the medical practitioner or carer to obtain real-time information about the state of the asthmatic patient. In the healthcare setting, the device and app will be connected to a private network in order to lower the risks of interference from outside signals. With this set-up, the clinician can keep track of the patient or be alerted if an asthma attack was to occur. This is achieved through the sensors in the wearable which track cough rate, respiration patterns, heartbeat, temperature and other symptoms of interest. The notification settings, be they set to vibrate (to warn the patient) or as remote alarms to clinicians, can alert to a worsening condition.
The app can also alert the patient or carer for scheduled treatment plans. The aim is provide an early alert when needed, but also to free up the healthcare schedule.
