Two different companies recall ice cream products

The first company to announce a recall is Pink’s Ice Cream LLC of Seattle. The company has taken steps to recall all of its ice-cream flavors produced in 2014 with the exception of Coconut Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert. This is due to potential contamination with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall is the result of contamination found at Snoqualmie Gourmet Ice Cream, Pink’s dairy supplier. This raw material has been used in several product types.

The second company initiating a recall is Full Tilt Ice Cream of Seattle. The Full Tilt dairy-based ice-cream products were distributed in Oregon and Washington. The recall is for the same potential contamination from the same bacterium.

Listeria monocytogenes is the bacterium that causes the infection listeriosis. Listeriosis primarily causes infections of the central nervous system (meningitis, meningoencephalitis, brain abscess, cerebritis) and bacteremia in those who are immunocompromised, pregnant women, the young and elderly. It can also trigger gastroenteritis in healthy persons who have ingested a large number of the bacteria.

The Pink’s products are:

Pink’s Ice Cream Black Sesame, Durian, Green Tea, Mango, Red Bean, Spicy Ginger, Taro, Thai Tea
