More than 20 watercolors and sketches attributed to Adolf Hitler were sold Tuesday for more than $200,000 at an auction in Britain.
The artworks, most of them landscapes, sold individually at prices from $6,800 to more than $22,000.
Organizers say a Russian businessman paid the top price for a watercolor on paper entitled “The Church of Preux-au-Bois.” It was signed “A. Hitler.”
An auction spokesman said the total more than doubled the pre-sale estimate.
Authorities say the artworks were found in a farmhouse in Belgium in the 1980s not far from Flanders, where Hitler was stationed as a German soldier during World War I.
Their authenticity remains in doubt. Some critics say it is not possible to prove whether the paintings are genuine.
The Associated Press says the experts who validated them in the 1980s are dead.
