The outbreak of the coronavirus has become a huge disruption in many aspects of our daily lives. It has wreaked havoc on the economy, put our health capabilities on the spot, and even changed the methods of education.
Most universities and colleges have canceled their face-to-face classes and moved to online instruction. Moreover, the pandemic has threatened to alter all the other aspects of college life too, from enrollment and admissions to collegiate athletics, and more.
Some news highlights for May 2021
The requirements and restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic have been the subject of many news reports happening in universities all around the country. Some highlights for this month include:
- University of Richmond (May 12)
The university will move from yellow restrictions to orange on campus, starting on Saturday, May 15.
- University of Massachusetts (May 11)
The university at Amherst has received lawsuit threats from the parents of the students who got suspended for attending a party without wearing their masks in March. The students got caught when someone posted their picture with the administrators.
- University of Michigan (May 11)
Hundreds of the faculty members of this university signed a petition against the university’s vaccine plan, which they consider “nonsensical.” The university requires only the students who live on campus to get vaccinated.
- Florida State University (May 10)
The university has changed its face mask rules. Now, they only “recommend” wearing masks instead of requiring masks indoors.
- Rowan University (May 7)
The university has announced a vaccine requirement for students who study or live on campus, and the incentives they will give to students who will get the vaccine.
- Nova Southeastern University (May 6)
The university announced on the 1st of April that it will require vaccines for all employees and students by the fall. Shortly after the announcement, Florida passed a law that prohibits these requirements so the university reversed its position.
- Harvard University (May 6)
The university announced that it will require all of the students on campus this fall to get vaccinated to achieve the high vaccination levels needed to keep the community protected.
- University of Oregon (May 5)
This weekend, the students of the university held backyard parties where hundreds of students gathered without masks. The administration of the university got disappointed when they saw the photo of this gathering at the off-campus parties.
- Methodist University (May 4)
This university requires seniors to get tested for COVID-19 to attend their graduation. The university has a “legal and a moral obligation” to require this testing and only students who test negative for COVID-19 will receive tickets to their graduation.
- Saint Vincent College (May 3)
Due to the increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases on campus, this university has ordered all classes to be remotely held.
Homework help from professionals
As a student in college, I make sure to do my homework and submit it on time always. Just like all other students who are currently enrolled in online classes instead of face-to-face classes in a university, I still try to prioritize my education.
But when things start getting overwhelming because I have too many tasks to deal with, I turn to Edubirdie for doing my homework. This is an excellent writing service that also offers other kinds of writing services including essays, coursework, term paper and PPTs.

Types of tests done on suspected COVID patients
There are three (3) categories of testing done on suspected COVID patients. The NAAT identifies whether the coronavirus genetic material exists in a person’s body. This is the “PCR test” where you would undergo a pharyngeal swab and a nasal pharyngeal swab.
The Antigen test is for identifying one of the outer proteins of the viral envelope or shell. The third test is for detecting whether or not a person has developed antibodies.

Immunizations all around
The first defense that universities can count on is immunity. Trials are now on the way at both the state and federal levels to extend immunity to universities and colleges.
If members of congress make the decision to extend immunity to these learning institutions, they should issue guidelines for schools to follow too. We can expect more information about COVID-19 in the weeks to come.
Conclusion
The coronavirus has impacted almost all aspects of our daily lives in just a matter of months. Learning institutions are now adapting to these changes. After this, the next important step is to plan for reopening and resuming onsite activities in school by first ensuring everyone’s safety.
