BEVERLY HILLS (voa) – The movie “A Beautiful Mind” and actress Nicole Kidman are among the winners at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, which are considered a preview of the Oscars.
Ms. Kidman was named best leading actress in a comedy or musical for her role in “Moulin Rouge” during the awards ceremony, held in Beverly Hills California. “A Beautiful Mind,” the story of schizophrenic mathematician John Nash has already won two awards: Best supporting actress for Jennifer Connelly and Best Screenplay.
“A Beautiful Mind” and musical “Moulin Rouge” garnered six nominations each ahead of Sunday’s awards ceremony. Murder mystery “Gosford Park” was nominated five times while drama “Mulholland Drive” won four nominations. Actor Russell Crowe is favored to win the best-actor-in-a-drama award for his starring role in “A Beautiful Mind.”
Fellow Australian Nicole Kidman has earned a rare double best actress nomination: One for best performance in a drama for “The Others” and another for her role in the musical “Moulin Rouge.”
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards the honors.
