It took place at the Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. “The event was a huge success. We had one of our biggest turnouts that we have ever had, and we awarded a $50,000 research grant to Fox Chase Cancer Center,” said Robin Cohen, CEO of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation.
This event featured such distinguished actors as William deVry, the celebrity ambassador of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, as well as three-time Emmy winner Maura West, Wally Kurth, and James Patrick Stuart. “We were honored to have all of the actors there. They were all genuine and very funny and cared about the cause. Wally Kurth said it was so appropriate to have this event in a comedy club because everyone was laughing the entire time, which was very true,” Cohen said.
This September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, and the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation has a benefit concert on Thursday, September 20, with the No Evidence of Disease Band.
“It’s a group of Gynecologic Oncologists from around the world that perform in a rock band. Their patients are their fans. This Saturday is our annual GALA. The theme is ‘Tealgating for Ovarian Cancer.’ We’ll be celebrating the ‘wins’ of the Philadelphia sports teams and also the teamwork of our organization. There are many analogies between sports and cancer- overcoming adversity, playing hurt, doing what it takes to stay on the field. It’s the perfect theme,” Cohen said.”
Cohen concluded, “I hope that everyone left Saturday’s event with their hearts full of fun and laughter, and also with a deep sense of pride for having supported a very worthwhile cause. It’s a very unifying experience when everyone can come together for the greater good.”
