The restaurant has opened up in London and it focuses on salty slices of fat-drenched carbohydrate (‘crisps’ in some regions of the world, including the U.K., or ‘chips’ (potato chips) in other areas, such as the U.S.) The establishment is located on Soho (in Old Compton Street) and it is called ‘Hipchips’ (@wearehipchips), and the unusual fare is trending on social media like Twitter.
Kapranos PR (@KapranosPR) “London’s first ever crisp restaurant is now open! Check out some delicious pics in @TimeOutLondon here: http://www.timeout.com/london/blog/in-pictures-londons-first-crisp-restaurant-is-now-open-112216 … #newopening.”
Each of the crisps on sale are especially made for the establishment and they are prepared from less well-known potato varieties, such as Highland Burgundy, Red Emmalie, Salad Blue and Shetland Black. According to The Daily Telegraph, along with the crisps patrons can select one of six savory dips, such as katsu curry, smoky cheese fondue, baba ghanoush and beetroot & lemongrass marmalade.
“Seen in the City (@Seen_inthecity) “Ok this might be the coolest cafe we’ve ever heard of… @wearehipchips.”
There are also seven so-termed “pudding dips.” Here the chips are served with such fare as peanut butter and jam, creme brulee, chocolate praline mousse or chocolate salted caramel.
Just Opened London(@JustOpenedLdn) “Feeling chipper? Feeling hipper? Sounds like we all need some @wearehipchips in our life! Time for artisan crisps.”
Discussing the aim of the restaurant with London’s newspaper, the Evening Standard, chef Scott Davies explains: “Everyone likes crisps, but what you can get in the shops is fairly average. We are using the best ingredients to make a high-end product. We wanted to give people something a bit different – I don’t think there is anyone doing something like this in the country, or even the world.”
As for the costs, Hipchips charges £4.50 ($6) for a small box of crisps with two dips; £6.75 ($9) for a medium box with three dips; and £11.50 ($14) for a large box with six dips.
London also hosts another unlikely eating establishment. This is the ‘Cereal Killer Cafe‘, which sells all-day breakfast cereals.
