At Easter, biting into chocolate eggs – a nod to pagan times – is a common practice in the UK over Easter, despite the weekend’s association with the Christian church. Consuming vast quantities of chocolate is never healthy, yet with lots of sweets being shared around, which are this Easter’s unhealthiest chocolate eggs? The answer is with new nutritional analysis.

Conducted by Fruity King, a survey has examined the sugar and calorie content of 175 chocolate eggs from popular supermarket shelves. By comparing nutritional per 100 grams and calculating totals for whole chocolate eggs, the products were ranked based on their health impact.

This reveals that the Skittles Milk Chocolate Easter Egg has the highest sugar content, with 74 grams of sugar per 100 grams of chocolate. A single 45g serving exceeds the recommended daily sugar intake by 10%, containing 33 grams of sugar. Eating the entire chocolate egg in one sitting would be equivalent to consuming 39 teaspoons of sugar.

If the entire egg is eaten, the Milky Way Easter Egg delivers up to 118 grams of sugar, with 64 grams per 100 grams of chocolate. That’s just 1 gram more than the Cadbury Caramilk and Cadbury White Chocolate Buttons Easter Eggs, which both rank third with 63 grams of sugar per 100 grams.
