Doug Ford says brother Rob has 2 new tumours on bladder

“Praying” tumours benign

The stay will be five days as Rob enters yet another phase of chemotherapy. This time, Doug said, Rob has a tumorous legion that is seven centimetres in length and another is five centimetres.

While Doug said they do not yet know if these tumours are malignant, when Rob spoke with the media in late October after being told his cancer was back, he said he expected the worst.

“We’re praying that it’s benign but you’ve got to deal with the realistic part of things and (be) 99 percent sure it’s malignant,” Rob Ford said at that time. “It’s emotional. I worked so hard to get to this point. I was getting in better shape, I was feeling great, better than I ever have in my life, and now I’m just right back to square one.

“I have to start all over,” the father of two added.

Rob Ford: rare cancer

In 2014 the then-Toronto mayor experienced severe abdominal pain and in September of that year was diagnosed with a soft-tissue cancer called pleomorphic liposarcoma. It is a rare cancer and Ford underwent extensive chemotherapy that shrunk the tumour and an operation that removed the remainder of it.

During this time he was engaged in a re-election bid but had to drop out; instead he ran for council in Etobicoke’s Ward 2 and easily won. At that time Doug Ford, then a council member in Toronto, replaced his brother and ran for mayor but finished second to John Tory.

Rob Ford is still serving his constituents despite the return of his illness and said in a recent press release he intends to continue to do so.
