Davey Fisher chatted about being an athlete, actor, model, and health and fitness influencer in the digital age.

Most recently, on December 30th, Fisher broke the world record for most walking lunges in 24 hours. He accomplished this feat at Aviation Park in Redondo Beach, California, with 5,011 lunges (surpassing the prior record of 4,769 lunges), and he discussed that new milestone.

Byron Pulsifer once said: “Imagine, dream, and believe in yourself. With determination and belief, you will be surprised at what you accomplish.” This quote applies to Davey Fisher, 35, who hails from Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

Fisher on his world record

On the world record for most walking lunges in 24 hours, Fisher said, “It was a very spontaneous thing that gave me a fun reason to motivate myself, and hopefully, I can motivate some other people in the process.”

“Breaking the world record was cool,” he admitted. “I mean, I don’t want to take away or discredit it, but it did feel like somewhat of a low hanging fruit relative to other records that exist out there.”

“If you look up the pull ups record, for example, I think the world record is well over 11,000,” he noted. “I thought I was good at lunges; it just happened to be one of the movements that I’m pretty good at.”

“I’ve done a lot of unilateral training with lunges and Bulgarians ever since I injured my meniscus, so I do a lot of single leg training,” he said.

“It was one of those odd movements that I just happened to be randomly pretty good at. I have a high strength threshold when it comes to lifting heavy, but also that lends itself well to doing anything really light. So, as soon as I saw the record, I felt compelled to give it a try,” he elaborated.

“I feel like, if anything else, it would be a fun excuse to change up my training and give me some kind of incentive to work towards,” he said.

“I am always encouraging my own clients in the gym with their goals, and sometimes they are a bit random like that. It’s fun to have a performance incentive like that to shoot for,” he explained.

“The experience in and of itself was kind of the reward,” he expressed. “When all of your friends and family show up at a track at night and it’s cold and it’s been raining all day. That just added another level of meaning to what I was doing.”

“It was really cool to have the support of people that I care about. I’ll remember that one forever. Not because of the record, just because of the work that it took to get there, and the people who showed up,” he added.

Daily motivations

On his daily motivations as a dad, athlete, coach and model, Fisher said, “I’ve been lucky to have some success in different industries, and sometimes I think it’s hard to delineate.”

Fisher continued, “Do I see myself as more of a trainer? Do I see myself as more of an entertainment figure in the modeling world? I’ve kind stumbled into acting, and that’s continuing to evolve.”

“I think what they all have in common is that they really force me to learn how to be comfortable in inherently uncomfortable situations. They each require you to put in a lot of effort and hard work,” he acknowledged.

“For some reason, I’m kind of addicted to doing hard things. Nothing comes easy in the modeling world, and things are even harder in the acting world,” he said.

“The fitness world itself is a meritocracy. So, I think there is an important aspect, especially in fitness, to walk your talk. As a trainer, I want to be able to relate to my clients in terms of all the difficult things they’re doing on a regular basis,” he elaborated.

“When I force myself to do something extremely difficult, I think it allows me to relate and connect with the kind of the hard work involved in achieving a goal or training for a goal,” he underscored.

Greatest lesson that the fitness industry has taught him

Fisher graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, and earned a degree in Kinesiology, and he minored in Sports Psychology.

On the greatest lesson that the fitness industry has taught him, Fisher said, “Authenticity matters! I’ve always taken pride in being not only a student academically when it comes to staying up to date on trends.”

“You must be able to apply the principles that you set forth for your clients. I wouldn’t feel very good if I’m not following my own advice in the gym,” he noted.

“I’ve always wanted to stand by is my philosophy and in training and abiding by my own principles and rules that I set for others,” he added.

In his personal life, Fisher and his wife are parents to a baby boy.

‘Finding Mr. Christmas’ experience on Hallmark

Fisher recalled being a part of Season 2 of “Finding Mr. Christmas” on the Hallmark Channel.

“It was so cool,” Fisher exclaimed. “It’s awesome to still get a chance to connect with the guys on a regular basis, even though we’re separated by some geography. The group text is always alive and well. I think through that process of ‘Finding Mr. Christmas,’ I really learned to respect the acting industry a lot more.”

“Each of the guys individually, all have their own specialties and their own skills that they bring to the table. They’ve cultivated those over years and years,” he noted.

Craig Geoghan and Angel Garet have been in the acting industry for a decade. Robbie Simpson’s resume speaks for itself. Jake Schum is another awesome fitness guy. They each have their own unique skill set,” he elaborated.

“I think we all rubbed off on each other in a lot of ways, and I just admire all their hustle,” he admitted. “I think that makes me more motivated to work even harder as well.”

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Fisher revealed, “Getting comfortable being uncomfortable.”

“I think on the StairMaster of life, responsibility keeps happening. So, you have to keep putting one foot in front of the other. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve really noticed less and less of my time is up to me,” he elaborated.

“I just feel like when I was younger, I had so much more freedom in my day to day,” he said. “A lot more of my time was up to me.”

“Now, the responsibility of a mortgage, managing work in a couple different industries, and then being a dad, it all forces you to prioritize your life on a different level,” he added.

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, Fisher said, “The digital age is forcing me to adapt in ways that I didn’t think were going to happen. For example, auditions, these days, are almost always remote. Castings for modeling are almost always remote too.”

“You send in your version of a self-tape, basically,” he said. “So, I think it’s increasingly important to be able to connect to whoever it is on the other end, whether it’s a casting, audition, or with a virtual client. I think establishing a human connection digitally is more important than ever before.”

“I’m trying to take care of all the eggs in different baskets that I have going on in life right now,” he noted.

“We used to walk into a room and try clothes on. Now, you just have to stay on top of digital castings, and auditions that come up on a regular basis. The nice part is I don’t have to drive and spend as much time in my car as I used to,” he elaborated.

“These days, you have to adapt to the digital aspect of each of those separate careers. Otherwise, you fall behind,” he observed.

“I can’t stress how important it is to just be opportunity-oriented rather than outcome-oriented,” he reiterated. “Success is about doing my best. It’s not about being the best.”

Success

Regarding his definition of success, Fisher said, “Success, for me, used to mean being the best, and now it means doing your best.”

“I used to over-prioritize outcomes and now, I’m prioritizing opportunities,” he said. “I think it’s so important to learn to value opportunities more than just outcomes.”

“Also, knowing that in the acting industry, well over 90 percent of your auditions are not going to go according to plan. You can’t really get overly excited about the outcome,” he noted.

“You have to really embrace the opportunity that each audition presents. This allows me to tap into a character that I never thought I would be auditioning for. You learn and you grow,” he elaborated.

“I think that’s what I’m enjoying about this chapter of life is it’s all about doing your best with the opportunities you have rather than hinging on the outcomes,” he explained.

“These days just doing my best makes me happy. If I didn’t break the world record, I wanted to be okay with the effort that I put forth and the fun opportunity that it presented. It’s all about the journey,” he added.

Craig Geoghan on Davey Fisher

Season 2 “Finding Mr. Christmas” winner Craig Geoghan praised Davey Fisher for his accomplishments and his personality.

“I met Davey on the set of ‘Finding Mr. Christmas,’ and clicked with him right away,” Geoghan said. “As soon as we met, it felt like I had known him for years so I got to know him really well. It makes sense to me that he broke this world record. Davey is a machine, but he’s an even better person. I’m really proud of him.”

Message for his fans and supporters

For his newly acquired Hallmark fans (that he earned from his “Finding Mr. Christmas” experience), Fisher shared, “It has been such a pleasure to just be affiliated with Hallmark in general, and to take people along on the journey.”

“My hope and mission in acting is to obviously put forth a good product for the audience to enjoy, but also to allow them to live vicariously through the lens of my character,” he elaborated.

“Hopefully, some people could relate to some elements of me in the show. If I can motivate people, that’s always my No. 1 goal,” he noted.

“I want to provide some level of motivation or inspiration,” he admitted. “I want to try to instill accountability in people’s lives, and perhaps a little sense of humor every now and then. I think that goes a long way, and I always like to lean into levity.”

“Levity to me is like a second language, so any combination of the above is what I hope to accomplish with the audience that Hallmark has allowed me to have,” he concluded.
