Dairy Queen giving away free ice cream on Monday

Participating Dairy Queen locations will be giving away 5-ounce vanilla cones.

Dairy Queen is running the promotion because it is celebrating its 75th anniversary. The company uploaded a photo to its Facebook page and announced that participating locations will be giving away one cone per customer all day long.

The company is also asking people to donate for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which raises funds to save and improve children’s lives at 170 children’s hospitals throughout the United States and Canada.

The first Dairy Queen restaurant was opened for business back in 1940, Joilet, Illinois. The first DQ store in Canada opened up in 1953, in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Today, the company’s corporate offices is located in Edina, Minnesota, and is owned by a subsidiary owned by Berkshire Hathaway. Currently, there are around 4,750 Dairy Queen locations in the United States.
