”Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” has grossed over $100 million

NEW YORK – Ang Lee’s ”Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” released by Sony Pictures Classics has grossed over $100 million dollars in North America over the weekend creating an extraordinary new record as the highest grossing foreign language film in history.

” We are really proud that a small company like Sony Pictures Classics can show that a film like ”Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon”, can reach an audience of this magnitude effectively using specialized marketing techniques,” comments co-Presidents Michael Barker and Tom Bernard. “We are especially proud of our staff and feel privileged to have been involved with Ang Lee’s production from its inception. Hopefully, this level of success will help open the door, however slight, to the future accessibility of foreign films.”

Nominated for 10 academy awards including Best Picture and Best Director, ”Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” most recently earned Ang Lee The David Lean Award for Achievement in Direction from BAFTA, the Director’s Guild Award for Best Director, and two Golden Globe Awards including Ang Lee for Best Director, (the first time a director of a foreign language film has received these awards in the history of both the Director’s Guild and The Hollywood Foreign Press). The film has also been named the Best Picture of the Year from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Time Magazine and over 100 film critics across America.
