Fodor’s 2015 rising world destinations topped by Croatia

Just days after a major PR coup for the Croatia National Tourist Board in the so-called Super Bowl battle of the Croatian coaches, there was more good news for one of Europe’s top tourism destinations, as Fodor’s Travel named Croatia as its top emerging world tourism destination on February 2, 2015.

The list, compiled from data on page views on the popular website, which reached more than 20 million monthly views in 2014, is the latest reflection of the growing popularity of the former Yugoslav republic, which is perhaps most famous for its long Adriatic coast and islands and countless beaches.

“Our editorial team is constantly monitoring destination trends, to ensure that the content we publish stays relevant as travelers’ tastes change. Analyzing visitors’ searches allows us to see where travelers intend to visit, giving us insight into what destinations are hot right now,” Arabella Bowen, Editor in Chief of Fodor’s Travel, said, according to Croatia Week.

The 2015 season promises to be another busy time for Croatia, whose national tourism board is working hard on extending the season through a year-round initiative called Croatia 365, while certain innovations, such as the introduction of the first scheduled seaplane service in modern Europe, are bound to attract the attention of this year’s visitors.

Croatia could also be set to benefit from the uncertainty in Greece after the recent elections, particularly if the new government defaults on its financial commitments, as Germans in particular may not be so prone to spend their hard-earned euros in a country it has been supporting for years.
