MOSCOW (voa) – A Russian lawmaker says journalists in Russia will be able to view a controversial film accusing Moscow of being behind a series of apartment building bombings in 1999, despite the refusal of state television networks to show it.
Sergei Yushenkov of Russia’s Liberal Russia party, who brought more than 1,000 copies of the film into the country from London Sunday, says there will be a special press screening Tuesday at the Moscow office of a human rights foundation.
The film was produced by Russian media tycoon Boris Berezovsky, who also funds the Liberal Party.
The documentary allegedly links the Russian secret service FSB, formerly KGB to the bombings in Moscow and the south Russian city of Volgodonsk that killed more than 300 people.
The Kremlin has denied any links to the bombings and says Chechen terrorists were responsible for the terrorist acts. Shortly after the attacks, Moscow launched a military offensive in Chechnya. No one has been convicted in connection with the bombings.
Mr. Berezovsky is a one-time aide to former President Boris Yeltsin. He lives in self-imposed exile in London. He is also the subject of an international arrest warrant alleging he embezzled huge sums of money from Russia’s Aeroflot airline.
