Author Cody Lowry chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about his book “Schmooze: What They Should Teach at Harvard Business School.”

Lowry takes vision and makes it a reality. He is also an inspirational leader whose stories move people to action and foster a winning can-do attitude.

Here are just a few of those stories: setting up a meeting with the President of the United States in one week, being asked to carry the torch in the Olympic torch relay, getting a baseball signed by the Pope, and being presented with a Super Bowl ring from one of the NFL’s Hall of Fame coaches.

Currently, divisional President of The Intermark Group, a full-service advertising digital, and branding agency located in Birmingham, Alabama Cody is a refreshing change of pace and a welcome addition to any corporate boardroom looking for innovative, realistic, out of the box ideas and solutions.

Prior to joining the Intermark Group Cody was the Founder and President of DynaMedia Of America a full- service advertising agency located in Tampa, Florida. With his instinctive Ritz Carlton-esque commitment to customer service Cody successfully built a multi-million-dollar agency with client retention lasting as long as 30 years. Cody’s “Secret Sauce?”: Build the relationship, earn the client’s trust, and never let them down.

Lowry holds a marketing and communication degree from the University Of South Florida, but because of his humble and chaotic beginnings, he is most proud of his graduation from what Alan Dershowitz once termed “The School of Hard Knocks.”

The description of the book is as follows: In this inspirational chronicle, entrepreneur Cody Lowry shares how the events in his life led him to become a motivational force in the lives of others.

He’ll share how being raised by a single mother prepared him for an extraordinary life. His odd job stories will demonstrate how reinvention is always possible. And with his marvelous storytelling technique, Cody will encourage readers to look at their lives differently.

Through humorous, real-life stories, he’ll arm them with a new definition of the word “schmooze” that will empower them to unleash their full potential.

This book for the ages, as powerful as Dale Carnegie’s iconic How to Win Friends & Influence People, is a modern self-help guide that will be hard to put down. Cody Lowry will encourage you to think positively, try harder, have fun, and “schmooze” your way to a better life.

Every book, has a story about its creation, what’s the story behind ‘Schmooze: What They Should Teach at Harvard Business School’?

I’m living an incredible eclectic life with many victories that I owe to schmooze(my redefined definition of Schmooze that starts with being genuine). The story is simple….it’s about a little boy who should have fallen through the socioeconomic cracks in life and yet he succeeded. Starting at age 11 selling papers for the Miami News he learned some powerful life lessons that will stand the test of time.

What do you hope readers take away with them when they finish your book?

Today as my friend Nido Qubien said “today we live in the most connected society in the history of the world and yet we are more disconnected than ever before‘’. My hope is that readers will harken back to the days when we looked people in the eye ….we communicated with a smile ….we built real long-lasting relationships without the likes and clicks so many rely on for relevancy in their own lives.

You’re a renowned author in literary circles. What is the most interesting feedback or question you have received from a reader?

Because of my comedic background and because I was born with a lampshade on my head many readers are surprised by how humorous the reading of Schmooze was.

While writing this rather intriguing book did you learn anything new about yourself?

Yes…. that I’m a great storyteller (their words not mine).

I know you have a very busy schedule, but I’m sure your fans are wondering so I have to ask – do you have a new book you are working on that you can tell us a bit about it?

I love meeting new people and engaging new people to learn more about their story. Because I believe there are so many Schmoozers people would like to read about my job is to find those individuals and tell their story. Next book….. Schmoozers We Love
