Brand name baby food, fruit snacks subject to nationwide recall

Subject to consumer recall, effective Aug. 7, is a resealable baby food made by Heinz, and an artificially flavored fruit snack produced by Motts.
Specifically, an apple, broccoli, pea and brown rice flavored squeeze pouch of Heinz baby food, and Mott’s Fruitsations flavor blend of apples and strawberry, are being recalled out of concern over broken seals, which can lead to spoilage.
So far, no illnesses have been reported as a result of the nationwide recall, according to the CFIA.
A consumer complaint reportedly precipitated the recall.
Parents are encouraged to toss out the spoiled foods, or return them to the store where they were purchased.
In the event one of the products in question were consumed by children, state officials encourage parents to be on the lookout for symptoms ranging from an upset stomach diarrhea or vomiting.
Officials with CFIA have begun a broader food safety investigation, and have not ruled out additional recalls.
Concerned parents may sign up for email and social media updates regarding the product recalls.
