The pie and tart shells were produced by Edmonton-based Harlan Bakeries and were distributed to retailers all across Canada, according to CTV News Canada.
The recalled pie and tart shells are sold under various brand names, according to the CFIA, including Great Value, Apple Valley, Western Family and various brands with no name. The products include deep-dish pie shells, sweetened tart shells, regular tart shells and 2-inch tart shells and 3-inch tart shells.

Digital Journal spoke with an official at the CFIA who said the recalled flour products were related to an Ardent Mills flour recall issued on April 12. While there have been 28 confirmed illnesses related to the flour recall, there have been no illnesses to date relating to the pie and tart shells recall.
Infections with E coli 0121, or Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, usually begins about 2 to 8 days after eating a contaminated product. Most people develop diarrhea (often bloody) and abdominal cramps. And while most people recover within a week, children under 5 years, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems can become seriously ill.
Consumers are advised to discard these recalled products or return them to the place they were purchased. Do not consume them. If you think you have become sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.
