British Tabloid Reports Claim Security Breaches At London Airports

LONDON (voa) – Reporters from the British tabloid Sunday People claim they were able to smuggle an 11-centimeter dagger and other sharp weapons through airport security at London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

They said they took the weapons onto a British Airways regional flight for the second time in a little more than a week.

The newspaper Sunday printed an account by its staffers saying three knives were smuggled aboard different jet flights.

The blades were described as a miniature, razor-sharp steel cleaver disguised as a credit card, a stiletto knife with the appearance of a pen, and a nylon comb concealing a blade attached to the handle.

They were purchased from a British firm, and their sale is not illegal.

The newspaper said that British Airways and the British Airports Authority plan to investigate loopholes in airport security in reaction to the reports.
