NEW YORK (afp) – A British Airways Concorde jet has landed at New York’s John F. Kennedy airport after its first transatlantic flight since service was suspended last year after a deadly crash.
The plane departed London’s Heathrow Airport Monday with about 100 British airways employees on board for the flight test.
British Airways plans to run a preview flight for corporate customers and reporters on November 7, with fare-paying flights to begin on November 9.
The crash of a concorde last year killed 113 people. Investigators say a metal strip on the runway punctured a tire, setting off a chain reaction in fuel tanks that resulted in the Air France Concorde crashing to the ground.
All 12 Concordes operated by British Airways and Air France were grounded following the crash.
Since that time, both airlines have upgraded the planes fuel tanks, tires and undercarriage wiring.
