Boy scouts edge closer to cancer awareness feat

Last week Digital Journal reported on the group of intrepid boy scouts peddling away on bikes, moving across the U.S. in order to raise awareness and much needed funds for cancer research. The campaign is called “Bike Loud!

The task began on June 15, when seven boy scouts assembled at the Pacific seaside town of Florence, Oregon. Some 3,900 miles later their endurance feat was set to be completed on August 18 in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.

So, how are the teenagers progressing with their 66-day marathon? The boys will enter North Carolina on Saturday, August 15. They then have overnight stops scheduled in North Wilkesboro, Denton, Fayetteville, and Currie. The final destination of Wrightsville Beach, will now be reached Wednesday, August 19. The target time is 11:00 a.m.

The full itinerary is:

August 15: Abingdon, VA to North Wilkesboro, NC
August 16: North Wilkesboro to Denton, NC
August 17: Denton to Fayetteville, NC
August 18: Fayetteville to Currie, NC
August 19: Currie to Wrightsville Beach, NC (celebration)

All of the sponsorship from their endeavor will go to teen cancer programs, including one set up for a classmate lost by the boys called the Sophie Foundation.
