LAS VEGAS – OutKast was a double winner and Whitney Houston was honored with a lifetime-achievement award Tuesday evening at the first BET Awards.
OutKast was named best male group and won video of the year for “Ms. Jackson.”
The Black Entertainment Television honors recognize excellence in music, film and sports among black entertainers and athletes. The 15 awards were voted on by record-label executives, media and fans.
Ms. Houston, 37, has won six Grammy Awards. Her films include The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher’s Wife.
