Barber’s Chicken Kiev product was produced on January 29, 2015; February 20, 2015; and April 23, 2015. According to the FSIS/USDA, he following product is subject to the recall:
2-lb. 4-oz. cardboard box containing 6 individually pouched pieces of “BARBER FOODS PREMIUM ENTREES BREADED-BONELESS RAW STUFFED CHICKEN BREASTS WITH RIB MEAT KIEV” with use by/sell by date of April 28, 2016, May 20, 2016 and July 21, 2016 and Lot Code number 0950292102, 0950512101, or 0951132202.
In a statement, Barber Foods said: “In the abundance of caution, Barber Foods has issued a voluntary recall of a select number of Barber Foods Premium Entrees Kiev Stuffed Chicken Breast due to the Minnesota Department of Health linking four cases of Salmonellosis to the product.”
The product under the recall notice bears the establishment number “P-276” inside the USDA mark of inspection. This item was shipped to Sam’s Club stores in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. This product has not been for sale in retail stores since June 26, 2015, but the FSIS is concerned that consumers may have the item in their freezers.
The FSIS says there is no indication the product subject to this recall is anywhere in Maine. The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) continues to investigate the contamination along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Minnesota Department of Health investigates Salmonella illnesses
On July 2, the Minnesota Department of Health issued a warning stating seven recent cases of salmonellosis in Minnesota had been linked to raw, frozen, breaded and pre-browned, stuffed chicken entrees. Four of those cases were further linked to the Barber Foods product.
Three illnesses were linked to eating Antioch Farms brand Cordon Bleu raw stuffed chicken breast with a U.S. Department of Agriculture stamped code of P-1358. It was also noted that in 2014, the Minnesota Department of health linked six cases of Salmonella enteriditis to the consumption of Antioch Farms brand A La Kiev raw stuffed chicken breast.
