And the Emmy Goes to: South Park?

Digital Journal — Comedy Central has decided to re-air South Park’s “Trapped in a Closet” episode as of July 19. Only a week after the much-talked about, Scientology-bashing episode scooped up an Emmy nomination, Comedy Central has agreed to send the show back into rotation.

What’s more ironic: The fact that episode was even nominated, or that the network is re-airing it after the Emmy nod?

The controversial episode allegedly upset some high-profile Scientologists after showing church member Tom Cruise refusing to come out of a closet.

Comedy Central never said exactly why it yanked the episode, but creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker weren’t shy about suggesting Cruise himself had the episode pulled.

According to the co-creators, Cruise was refusing to promote his latest Paramount film Mission: Impossible III unless the episode was killed. Viacom owns both Paramount and Comedy Central.
