‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper, a former WWE Champion, passed away on July 30. He died in his home in Hollywood, California of natural causes.
In 2006, Piper was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, but last fall he said he was free of cancer.
Piper’s rep, Jay Schachter, released a statement, saying the former wrestler passed away peacefully in his sleep. The rep continued to say that he was shocked by the news and he was davastated. He described Piper as an amazing person, as well as a true friend. Schachter added that Piper was the most generous and sincere person he has ever known.
The CEO of the WWE, Vince McMahon, also sent his condolences to Piper’s family.
In 2005, Piper was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and he was one of the top villains in the history of the company.
Piper started wrestling for the WWE on a full-time basis back in 1984 and he last wrestled for the organization in 2008, but he made a number of appearances on various WWE shows up until last year.
Roddy leaves behind his wife and four kinds, including three daughters and a son who is pursuing a professional wrestling career.
