WWE legend Dusty Rhodes dead at 69

The WWE released a statement saying that Runnels died on Thursday, but nothing was said about where or how he died. The company said that his family didn’t authorize the release of that information.

Runnels wrestled under the name of Dusty Rhodes, and he was nicknamed ‘The American Dream.’ He was also a member of the WWE Hall Of Fame, and he held the NWA title three times. It was in the 70s and 80s that he reached mega-fame in the wrestling world, and was known for wearing his signature yellow polka dot tights.

Additionally, the WWE legend worked as a backstage booker and producer in WWE NXT, which is the company’s developmental territory.

Runnels was the father of Dustin Runnels (Goldust) and Cody Runnels (Stardust). He also leaves behind his second wife, Michelle Runnels and his two daughters, and three grandkids. The WWE said that Runnels helped shaped the company’s landscape, even long after his career in the ring had come to an end.

After news about the death of Runnels, various WWE stars started to Tweet their condolences. Triple H Tweeted that he was sadden by the news and described Runnels as a teacher, mentor and friends. Seth Rollins Tweeted that he was fortunate to call Runnels a friend, and many others sent out similar Tweets.
